The Director General of Traffic, Pere Navarro, has presented the details of this year´s special operation to deal with the flow of traffic around the Easter holidays, with the usual emphasis of ensuring a smooth flow of traffic whilst preventing traffic related incidents during the 10 day holiday period.
During the Easter holidays of last year, 190 people didn´t return home as planned after celebrating the fiesta. Of those, 31 didn´t return home at all, leaving their families and friends to deal with the loss and the grief that they never imagined having to deal with.
This year, as part of the promised hard-hitting campaigns Pere Navarro prefers, the DGT has created a series of videos and posters promoting the top holiday destinations for the season, although these are not what you might expect at first, as prison, hospital or the cemetery are the top three destinations on offer, specifically for those who fail to respect traffic law, and in particular those who ignore the most deadly practices of inappropriate speed, consuming alcohol or drugs, and distractions such as using a mobile phone.
In an ironic way, the campaign takes a tour of those three places where nobody thinks they will end when they start their holidays. The adverts will be seen on television, and through social media, attempting to reach as many people as possible as a reminder of the dangers involved and the responsibility of each and every road user.
There is also a dedicated website, topvacacional.es, and a hashtag, #TopVacacional, to maximise the reach even further.
Moreover, posters have been created that will be seen in newspapers, shopping centres, travel interchanges, and billboards.
The videos themselves have been recorded in real locations, just to add that extra level of sincerity, and has been achieved through the collaboration of the Hospital del Escorial, the prison in Segovia and the Cementerio de la Almudena, as well as SUMA 112 and all of the professionals who work in these centres.
