Grande-Marlaska has connected by video-conference with the directors of regional competence in the field of Civil Protection, as well as Government delegates and representatives of other entities

The minister has thanked all for their availability in order to achieve maximum efficiency through a strengthened partnership, that is showing the good functioning of the National System of Civil Protection

The minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has presided over this Thursday, a new meeting, held by videoconference, the State Committee for the Coordination of Civil Protection (CECO), whose objective has been to analyze the development of the measures put in place against the COVID-19 in the whole of the National System of Civil Protection.

Grande-Marlaska has led the meeting in the headquarters of the Department, accompanied by the secretary of the Interior, Isabel Goicoechea, and the director general of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Leonardo Frames.

The minister of Interior has welcomed the availability of all and his great work, in these moments in which we are immersed in the management of the crisis, and has stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination between all the administrations and agencies involved to strengthen the National Civil Protection System and make it more effective. “United we will defeat the virus”, he said.

The National System of Civil Protection

The National System of Civil Protection (SNPC), whose address is functional in this emergency is exercised by the Minister of the Interior, was activated with the entry into force of the alarm condition. This allowed the immediate constitution of territorial bodies of emergency management, giving a uniform response throughout the national territory. On this occasion, its activation has as its mission to support the National Health System in the management of the crisis caused by the COVID-19-

The SNPC consists of all the capabilities of the Public Administrations and of the set of societies, which can be used in cases of disaster to ensure the protection of people and property, highlighting the services of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the State and of the Autonomous Communities and local Corporations, the Military Unit of Emergencies, fire, forestry officers and environmental centers 112, etc Also, involved Groups of Volunteers who collaborate especially at the local level, as well as the Spanish Red Cross.

In addition, since the Ministry of Interior, Spain participates in the European Mechanism of civil protection, a body that coordinates the actions of the States and that today has approved the creation of a strategic reserve of medical equipment.
