The municipal group of Orihuela’s Ciudadanos party are introducing two proposalsat the next Plenary meeting which they say the ruling PP government team should act on with some urgency. Both relate to the interests of the Orihuela Costa and it’s residents.
The first deals with public services, or perhaps more accutarely, the lack of public services on the coast, which party spokesman Juan Ignacio Lopez-Bas has asked to be audited prior to the drawing up of the new municipal budgets. The second relates to the macrobotellones, the informal gatherings where thousands of young people congregate to enjoy very loud music and all that goes alongside these events.
Luisa Bone of Ciudadanos, recently met with the president of the Federation of the Orihuela Costa, Joaquín Capel, where residents worries were discussed. Bone said that the main concerns relate to the security, housekeeping, maintenance and repair of the public areas that are used for such events.
She said that she could not understand how legal permits were recently issued by the council authorities to hold two macrobotellones, each attracting between 7,000 and 10,000 young partygoers in an area where the facilities were so poor. She asked that a new site be identified, other than Campoamor, where a solution could be found for the proper provision of necessary services.
Lopez-Bas meanwhile said that the Orihuela budget should be apportioned fairly so that it meets the needs of its coastal residents as well as thouse who reside in the city and the pedenias. If necessary the funding should be redistributed without the need to raise taxes. He said that there had been no significant improvement to the services provided to the Costa for many years.
