Orihuela Can´t Afford Flood Coastal Prevention

A plan to stop flooding on the Orihuela Costa caused by heavy storms has been produced by water company Hidraqua, but Orihuela council can’t afford to pay for it.

A 12-strong set of proposals was unveiled this week at a presentation involving Hidraqua and council officials, with Orihuela infrastructure councillor, Juan Ignacio López-Bas (pictured on the left), saying that the work could cost up to 22 million euro, and that the authority would have to get regional, state, and European funding for the work to become a reality.

The plan budgets out three and a half million euro to deal with flooding in La Zenia and a similar sum for Playa Flanenca, whilst at the other end of the scale, 63 thousand euro is required, according to Hidraqua, to make improvements in Mil Palmeras.
