The 40th Torrevieja Tennis Tournament Starts Saturday

The Ciudad de Torrevieja Tennis Tournament, which reaches its 40th anniversary this year, starts today.

The event was first announced earlier this week by the councillor, Víctor Ferrández, and the organisers, the President of the Torrevieja Tennis Club, Antonio Tafalla, the Director of the tournament, Humberto Zuleta and the referee, David Pérez.

The councillor said that it is an “authentic joy” to present a tournament with 40 years of life, “the sporting tournament dean of Torrevieja thanks the efforts of the club itself and the sponsors.” He also stressed that his career and the number of participants is a competition that puts Torrevieja on the “map” in the world of tennis, and also has a solidarity aspect with the delivery of food to the local association Solidarity Food.

David Pérez detailed various aspects of the tournament in which the participation of some 350 athletes is expected. In addition to the promising and senior categories of the tournament itself, the categories Benjamin, Fry, Child, Junior, Absolute and Veteran will also be disputed – in this case it has been established + 35, + 45, + 55, + 60, and +70 in male category and +35 and +50 in female-. As for the prizes, he has detailed that there are 3,200 euro in cash and 2,000 euro in sports material for the finalists of the promise categories.

The tournament begins today, Saturday, June 4, and the final phase is scheduled to begin as of Thursday for the 16 categories. It is expected that players from the area will travel to the town, as the championship is scoring for the official ranking of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation.

Throughout the hearing there have been words of thanks to the sponsors by the Club president, who has cited them expressly and has also referred to the solidarity aspect of this appointment with the “generous donation of Dialprix to Food Solidarity ” He also had words of thanks to the City Council of Torrevieja and the Department of Sports, for the support they receive and has expressed his desire to “not disappoint.”

The Tournament Director explained how it has evolved in its 40 years of history and has cited major milestones to become “one of the most important in the Valencian Community and has become a reference for regional players,” he said.
